Firsova readings “Modern languages and cultures: variability, functions, ideologies in the cognitive aspect” at RUDN University

The VI Firsova Readings conference “Modern languages and cultures: variability, functions, ideologies in the cognitive aspect”, held at the Faculty of Philology brought together speakers from Russia, England, Hungary, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, working in 9 thematic sessions. The conference featured a workshop, a round table and three seminars in Russian and English.

Yulia Alyunina, assistant lecturer at the Department of Foreign Languages, RUDN Faculty of Philology, dedicated her workshop to Zotero bibliographic manager and automation of preparing a list of references.

Habibullah Pathan, visiting professor at the Center for English Language and Linguistics at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (Pakistan), conducted a scientific seminar “Dynamics of Languages in a Minority Situation” covering 2 topics: “Reimagining the role of L2 Motivation in the 21st Century” and “Leveraging Languages for Sustainable Development”.

Marina Solnyshkina, professor at Kazan Federal University, spoke on RuLingvo aggregator platform as a text analytics tool.

The round table “Metalanguage of modern linguistics” featured a presentation of “Project Dictionary-Directory of Cognitive Terms” by Tatyana Romanova, Valentina Kulikova and Anna Khomenko. The dictionary was presented by Professor Tatyana Romanova, member of the Presidium of RCLA (The Russian Cognitive Linguists Association), Doctor of Philology, Head of the Department of Fundamental and Applied Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, National Research University Higher School of Economics (Nizhny Novgorod).

On-site conference participants could take a refresher course “Modern Languages and Cultures: Varieties, Functions, Ideologies in a Cognitive Perspective”.

The Firsova readings are an international forum of linguists, literary scholars and cultural experts, held since 2014, by the Department of Foreign Languages of RUDN Faculty of Philology and the scientific and educational Institute of Modern Languages, Intercultural Communication and Migration (IMLICaM) in memory of the outstanding Russian philologist, honored scientist of the Russian Federation Natalia Mikhailovna Firsova (1929–2013).

The conference was organized by the Department of Foreign Languages of RUDN Faculty of Philology, RUDN IMLICaM, the Russian Association of Linguists-Cognitologists (RALC) and the Kazan Federal University.

 

The program was attended by 204 students from 56 universities, including the Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, BelSU, VSTU, Alexander Nevsky Military University, the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade, Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, RAS Institute of Linguistics, KIU, KSU, KFU, Leningrad State Pedagogical University, MGIMO, MSLU, MSPU, MGSU, Bauman MSTU, Moscow State University, PSU, RANEPA, Herzen RGPU, Kosygin RSU, RTU MIREA, Plekhanov University, St. Petersburg State University of Culture, St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, St. Petersburg State University, Siberian Federal University, Derzhavin TSU, TuvSU, Demidov Tula Institute, ChelSU, Financial University, ChSPU, South Ural SHPU, South Ural State University (National Research University) and others.

RUDN medical students take two bronze medals at the Anatomy Olympiad in Minsk

December 15, Minsk hosted the IX International Student Olympiad in Human Anatomy. It was attended by 9 teams from Russia and Belarus. Students of RUDN took two 3rd places in the theoretical and practical rounds.
