New approach to international student enrollment: profile classes and training centers
In 2016, RUDN opened Russian language and pre-university training centers as well as profile classes on a number of subjects. It helps reveal the most talented foreign students and prepare potential entrants for university. RUDN Rector V.Filippov told about the strategy of shifting from quantity to quality of international students at a press conference “RUDN – discover the whole world in one university”. “RUDN is becoming a research university. Searching for and training talented students is one of the most important strategic tasks”, Rector noted.
We have 3 Russian language and pre-university training centers in Ecuador, China and Jordan.
According to Larisa Efremova, Vice-Rector for academic mobility “at the center one can test the language and get a B2 certificate to study in Russian universities”. “School children can learn the language and know about the culture and traditions of Russia”, notes Lina Kandakzhi, RUDN professor in Jordan.
Today 10 profile classes are opened in Jordan (2 classes), China, Ecuador, Columbia (2 classes), Peru (2 classes), Chile and Vietnam. RUDN professors from the Agrarian and Technological Institute, Engineering Academy, Medical Institute, Faculty of Humanitarian and social sciences and Philological faculty teach maths, physics, chemistry and biology in the form of master classes, seminars and lectures. After one year in the profile class students can go straight to the first year of university.
The experience of 2016 was very good. In 2017, more profile classes pre-university training centers will be opened in Angola, Greece, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Mongolia, Palestine, Turkey and Ecuador.
