RUDN Super Kings team is RUDN cricket champion

RUDN Super Kings team is RUDN cricket champion

June 9–13, students from Asia and Africa fought for the cup and the title of the best at the cricket tournament at RUDN University.

The athletes were 75 students from 5 countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and South Africa. The team “RUDN Super Kings” became the champion with a score of 82:10 and 119:9. The second and third places were taken by RUDN Royals and RUDN Riders.

“Cricket is not just a sport. In India it can be compared to religion. I was 5 or 6 years old when I saw my uncle watching cricket in fascination, emotionally reacting to every victory of the team. So I started watching matches on TV. Later I saw people gather in the streets and playgrounds and also play cricket. Then my mother bought me the first set for the game. Since then, I could not imagine my life without cricket. I’ve got agility, strategic thinking and teamwork skills thanks to this amazing game!” says Kartikeya Mrigank, Philology student from India.

“I grew up in the countryside and cricket has been my favorite game since childhood. I started taking my first steps at the age of 6-7, all my family being in love with this game! My father made the first bat for me. It was small and not very good. But every time I played cricket, I pursued one goal - to win. When you want to win, it doesn’t matter what you hit the balls with,” says Hossein Mohammad Shakil, a student at the Russian Language Institute from Bangladesh.

Interesting Cricket Facts:

  • In some countries there are separate sports TV channels showing cricket matches.
  • The Cricket World Cup, like the Olympics, is held every four years.
  • There are a lot of rules in cricket: if you copy them all on paper, you will get more than 20 pages.
  • Cricket as a game in English is like cricket as an insect.

The cricket tournament at RUDN University was timed to coincide with the Day of Russia.
